How To Submit Writing Samples

The best practices to guarantee your Writing Samples are accepted on Scripted.

Having great Writing Samples that demonstrate your versatility as a Writer is an essential part of making your Portfolio attractive to potential clients and ensuring that your proposal is accepted.

How To Upload

Writing Samples can be accessed from your dashboard by clicking "Writing Samples" on the left-hand side of your dashboard under Account. Here you'll find the button for "Submit New Writing Sample." From there, there are two options:

1. Submit via URL: This allows you to submit content hosted elsewhere on the web, along with an image and relevant industry. This will open in a new tab when the customer views the sample.

2. Submit Text: This allows you to submit writing samples that are not published on the web.

Submit Via URL

Submitting a URL-based writing sample shows a customer what your work looks like in context.

Importing the URL will automatically populate the Description field with some sample text from the document. We advise keeping two sentences that summarize the content or writing a new description of your own.

Submit Via Text

This is a great option for writers who haven't had an opportunity to get their foot in the door to showcase their skills! You'll have the ability to fully format your work and include images, so please ensure your content looks exactly how you want it before submission.

Requirements

  • The writing sample must prominently display your name as the content creator.

  • It must be a completed piece of content in its entirety. No partial submissions, navigational pages, or fragments of writing.

  • The writing sample cannot require a paid subscription to access.

  • The sample must be hosted on a site. PDFs, Google Docs, Dropbox, etc. will not be accepted. However, submissions published on your personal blog are acceptable.

Please note that if your Writing Sample does not meet the above requirements, it will not be accepted.

Selecting an Industry

All writing samples should be tagged with an industry. This allows you to submit an application for an Industry to appear on your portfolio, so please be sure to include one and apply for an industry once your Writing Sample has been accepted!

Choosing Topics

Once you've selected an industry, you'll see the option to tag the writing sample with up to three relevant sub-topics. These will automatically appear on your portfolio and be searchable by clients, so be sure to include at least one with each writing sample!

Attaching an Image

We highly recommend uploading an image to your writing sample. It makes your portfolio look professional and eye-catching! All images submitted on the platform should be Royalty Free or your own. If you're unsure where to find high-quality, free images, we recommend Pixabay or Unsplash.

How do I edit/delete Writing Samples?

You can manage your Writing Samples at any time by clicking Writing Samples on the left nav bar and clicking the dropdown box with a downward pointing arrow to the right of the job title. Click Edit Writing Sample. Here you'll be able to add an image, an industry, and topics or edit the content as needed.

What happens next?

Once you complete the submission, the content will be reviewed by Scripted Staff and if it meets the above requirements, it will go live on your profile.

We advise submitting your highest quality samples, along with images, with attention paid to your particular specialization. However, if you're knowledgeable about a wide range of topics, you may also want to showcase that versatility!
