Never miss a deadline again with these helpful tips!
One of the only rules you need to follow as a freelancer is to ensure that you meet your deadlines. Missing a deadline can result in trouble for your client, leaves a terrible first impression, and often means losing your client's trust.
But sometimes, life gets in the way. We understand that.
That's why Scripted has provided a number of ways to avoid missing a deadline. In this article, we'll dive into those tips, as well as address what happens when you miss a deadline on Scripted
I Missed My Deadline, Now What?
Upon missing your deadline, the job will automatically be assigned to another writer. In most cases, it is not possible for us to reassign the piece to you and unless you've already submitted work, you will not receive payment.
Additionally, missing a deadline means your account will be under review internally. We'll evaluate your performance on the platform and depending on the reasoning for missing the deadline, you'll likely be facing a minimum of 10 days suspended from Scripted.
How Can I Avoid Missing Deadlines?
Evaluate Your Workload
The first key to not missing a deadline is being honest with yourself about your workload. Did you claim too many jobs? Did you claim the job without looking at the content brief and are just now realizing you have a ton of research to do?
A common mistake Writers make is to overestimate their ability to produce large volumes of content. Don't just claim as many jobs as you can find. Claim and complete them one at a time until you get the rhythm down and work your way up from there.
Remember Every time you accept a job on Scripted, you're agreeing to complete it before the deadline. Failure to meet that agreement can impact your account.
Don't Wait To Get Started
You should only accept a job if you plan on getting started that very same day. If you wait to start the content until close to the deadline, you may find yourself with more work than you expected. You can easily avoid this by only claiming jobs you intend to start the moment you claim them.
Extensions
Assuming you followed the above two tips, you likely won't find yourself needing an extension at all. But if you do need one, there are two ways to go about doing it.
- Reach out to the client: Clients can actually extend the deadline for you! If you reach out to them via messages, you can make the request. If they're unsure how just send them this article.
- Reach out to Support: Scripted has 24-hour support that extends deadlines for you as needed, as well.
If you follow the above steps, you'll very rarely find yourself at risk of missing a deadline. Naturally, there are always rare cases where it may be unavoidable, but there's a very slim chance that your situation falls into that category. Remember the above and you'll never need to worry about it again!
